Finding your Pen Pal

PenPals

Have you ever wondered how you could connect with other people on the other side of the world through more than just instagram?
Then having a pen pal may be the answer you’re looking for!

There are a couple different types of penpals that you can have. A more traditional penpal is posting letters and other goodies through ‘snail mail’ (this is the type of penpal we will be exploring in this post !). Other types include talking electronic mail and sites.

Finding a Pal :
It may to hard to find the right penpal for you. It is important to ask questions about the persons interest, likes and hobbies before sending anything to see if you are compatible with each other. No point sending out cute letters who isn’t interested in the same things you are! You don’t want to waste your time or theirs.

There are a couple sites specifically made for people looking for penpals that you are able ti sign up to and give a description of yourself. Here you are able to find likeminded people and exchange information to each other.

Some of these helpful sites are :

Other ways of finding penpals can include going to instagram and searching through the hashtag #penpalswanted. For me this method was the easiest and most helpful. There you can find dedicated accounts helping people find their new friends across the globe.

Make sure once you put yourself out there not to become overwhelmed by the people reaching out to you. Also don’t be afraid to reach out to others if you find similar interests. It is important to only accept the amount of pals you can handle. You do not have to accept everyones request and thats okay! At the beginning it is easier to start with one or two pals so you can find the best rhythm for you.

Sending the first letter :
Another aspect of penpalling is the aesthetic letters! Who doesn’t love a cute letter in the mail?
Along with the #penpalswanted you can find instagram accounts dedicated to creating inspiration for the penpal letters. There is also youtube videos that you are able to find detailing how they make their letters and what they add inside.

Things you can include in your first letter are things such as : information about you, your likes, hobbies, interests,  fun facts, childhood memories and always remember to ask questions about your pal!

Alongside the writing a lot of people enjoy sending little gifts as well. Some of these can be : small stationary items, pens, stickers, washi tape, tea, dried flowers, drawings and whatever you and your pal have discussed.

Finding cute stationary :
This can be done anywhere and everywhere. There are no limits to what shops you can go and purchase stationary items from to create these letters. A great starting point that is also quiet accessible is Diaso. There they have stickers, envelopes, washi tape, pens and more to start you on your journey. They’re also very affordable allowing you to start your collection slowly.

Let us know what your hobbies include and if you’ll ever consider sending letter in the mail!
